Kristine E. Pytash, PhD, is assistant professor of teaching, learning, and curriculum studies at Kent State University and codirector of the secondary Integrated Language Arts Teacher Preparation Program. Her research focuses on using disciplinary writing, understanding the literacy practices of youth in alternative schools and juvenile detention facilities, and equipping educators with writing pedagogy. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, English Journal, Voices From the Middle, and Middle School Journal. Dr. Pytash earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Kent State University, a master's degree in secondary education from John Carroll University, and a bachelor's degree in English from John Carroll University.
