The Friendly Schools Plus initiative helps schools to respond effectively to the strengths and needs of its students while concurrently supporting schools to plan and implement critical evidence-based actions to effectively respond to school communities' individual needs. This approach is critical for school improvement and long-term planning.
Friendly Schools Plus Staff surveys assesses school staffs’ perspectives about their students’ SEL and bullying behaviours. (See below for more specific details)
Student and staff surveys are a reliable and relatively quick method of gaining a school community perspective on pastoral care practices and bullying related issues. To ensure school strategies meet students’ social and emotional strengths and needs, schools must determine Staff and Student understandings, attitudes, competencies and behaviours. Friendly Schools Plus provides two self-administered online Survey Tools to be completed by students from 10 to 17 years, and staff. (Many students under 10 do not have the comprehension levels for reliable data) The results from these online surveys are aggregated into school level reports to help schools determine their priorities for student social and emotional development and to guide decision-making about current and future actions implemented at a whole-school and classroom level.
Friendly Schools Plus Staff surveys provide schools with an understanding of their staffs’ perspectives about their students’ SEL and bullying behaviours through measuring:
perception of their key understandings
attitudes towards SEL and bullying behaviours
perception of their skills to teach SEL and prevent and manage bullying behaviours
self-efficacy to enhance students’ social and emotional health and reduce bullying behaviours
perception of the effectiveness of their school’s prevention, response and support strategies
time spent responding to bullying behaviours
