Cathy L. Seeley

Cathy Seeley is committed to high-quality mathematics for every student. She has worked as a teacher, district mathematics coordinator and Texas state mathematics director for years F-12. She is also a sought-after speaker, having spoken in all 50 of America's states and around the world. After returning in late 2001 from teaching mathematics (in French) as a Peace Corps volunteer in Burkina Faso, Cathy was elected to serve as President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In that role, she received an EXCEL Gold Award for her President's Message "Embracing Accountability". She has appeared on television and radio and authored or co-authored various publications including textbooks.

Her book Faster Isn’t Smarter: Messages About Math, Teaching, and Learning in the 21st Century received a 2010 AEP Distinguished Achievement Award.

Cathy recently retired as a Senior Fellow with the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas, where she worked on state and national policy and improvement efforts, with a focus on prekindergarten–year 12 mathematics.
