Brian K Butler
Brian K. Butler, consultant, served as principal at Mason Crest Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia. Under Brian's leadership, Mason Crest Elementary received Solution Tree's first annual DuFour Award in 2016. The honor, named after PLC at Work™ architect Richard DuFour, credits high-performing PLCs that demonstrate exceptional levels of student achievement. The school received $25,000 as part of the award.
Brian has also been a principal and an assistant principal for other schools in the same district. With Brian as principal, Mount Eagle Elementary achieved outstanding results in reading and math on the Virginia Standards of Learning state tests, earning schoolwide pass rates of over 92 percent on both tests. As assistant principal of Lemon Road Elementary, Brian led his staff to high levels of collaboration—an approach he shares with parent groups, teachers, schools, and administrators to encourage teamwork among stakeholders.
During his career as a principal, Brian has been named as a Fairfax County Public Schools finalist for Principal of the Year, for demonstrating superior leadership qualities and creating an exceptional educational environment while at Mount Eagle. He also received the Nancy F. Sprague Leadership Award, a commendation of excellence for being one of Fairfax County’s Outstanding First-Year Principal nominees.
A former professional basketball player in the European League, Brian has a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from The George Washington University, a teacher’s certification in physical education and a master’s degree in school counseling, both from George Mason University, and an administrative endorsement from the University of Virginia.
