The eight books in the Strategies to Achieve Mathematics Success (STAMS) series offer strategy-specific instruction while enriching studentsÂ’ metacognitive skills for students year 1 and above. Twelve strategies are taught in a four-step approach which helps students internalise their learning. Topics are: number sense, estimation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebra, time/ money, working with measurements, geometry, probability and averages, and interpreting graphs and charts. Real-world problem-solving is presented in many different formats, such as recipes, biographies, narratives, charts and more. Revision lessons at intervals throughout the program reinforce the strategies already taught, and a final revision test provides a check for gaps in studentsÂ’ learning.
