Hawker Brownlow Education is an Australian-owned private family company. For over twenty years, the company has developed its unparalleled reputation as specialist educational publishers and printers within the Australasian market. More recently, Hawker Brownlow Education has also offered an extensive range of conferences, institutes, workshops and training sessions to support teachers and other professionals working in the education and child health sectors.
"At Hawker Brownlow Education we are passionate about the education of students, and strive to produce outstanding resource materials for teachers, parents, school administrators and other professionals in education and allied fields. Our activities include the publication of teacher resources that promote thinking, reflection and authentic assessment in the primary and secondary classroom, and encourage excellence in teaching and learning practice in schools. We also lead the way in providing innovative professional development resources and events to support the needs of teachers in the Australasian region."
Elaine and David Brownlow developed an interest in the publication and distribution of educational resources in the early 1980s when, as parents, they struggled to find appropriate resources to meet the educational needs of their own children. They identified a pronounced gap in the existing educational publishing market, and a corresponding demand for high-quality resources to support teachers and school administrators in delivering enhanced, innovative and truly inclusive educational programs.
In 1985 the Brownlows founded Hawker Brownlow Education as a wholly Australian-owned family company dedicated to publishing resources that address topical educational theory and issues, and encourage innovative practice at all levels of the education system and across all key learning areas.
Initially Hawker Brownlow Education's publishing list had a strong focus on provision for gifted and talented students. However, over the years, the company has extended its focus and range to include cutting edge resources on a wide range of subjects. Including:
|* Brain-based learning|
* Critical and creative thinking
* Quality questioning
* Multiple intelligences
|* Cooperative learning|
* Boys' Education
* Habits of Mind
* Understanding by Design
* Curriculum mapping
* Leadership skills
We also lead the market in sourcing, publishing and distributing innovative classroom resources across curriculum areas such as:
* Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
* Social Studies
* Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
* English as a Second Language (ESL)
* The Arts
More recently, Hawker Brownlow Education has also become recognised as a provider of quality professional development events. Our annual Thinking & Learning Conference, held each May, is the only event of its kind provided by an educational publisher for teachers from across the world. We also provide product training seminars with qualified trainers based on our best-selling series such as CARS and STARS, CAMS and STAMS and Brigance. And finally, our authors (both domestic and international) travel the country presenting their unique workshop sessions to educators.
